Classic Pumpkin Spice Syrup Recipe

…coffee to make you smile

With the dark nights drawing in, there’s no better time to get cosy on the sofa with a warming brew. If you’re looking for things to do with your leftover pumpkins, why not try a warming homemade pumpkin spice syrup:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup pumpkin puree (canned or homemade)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger.
  • Pinch of salt

Method:

  1. In a saucepan, combine the water, brown sugar, and pumpkin puree. Heat over medium heat, stirring until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is smooth.
  2. Add the vanilla extract, spices and salt. Continue to heat for another 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  3. Remove from heat and let it cool. Strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove any solids.
  4. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Use in your hot drinks or as a drizzle over pancakes!

Maple Pumpkin Spice Syrup

Replace the brown sugar with maple syrup to make it a Maple Pumpkin Spice Syrup.

Pumpkin Spiced Latte

For a Pumpkin Spiced Latte, add a tablespoon (or more, to taste) of your pumpkin spiced syrup before your espresso shot. Texture and pour milk as usual. Top with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
