We usually love to keep our iced coffees simple – a splash of milk at the most! But in the interest of welcoming in the summer months, we thought we would share something a little more indulgent for you to try. For our selection of “boozy” summer coffee recipes, visit our blog “Summer Coffee Cocktails and How to Make Them”.
Known as Ca phe sua da in Vietnam, this is a deliciously sweet take on the regular iced
coffee we know well in the UK. This drink uses a dark-roast coffee poured over a small amount of sweetened condensed milk.
The brewing method for this is usually made using a metal Vietnamese coffee filter, which gives a stronger coffee, but other methods, such as a V60, will also work.
Ideally, you should brew the coffee straight into the glass, but if your brew method doesn’t allow for this, just brew and then pour over afterward.
Why use condensed milk?
When fresh milk was scarce, sweetened condensed milk was used as an alternative. Once introduced, this sweeter version quickly gained popularity and stuck.
If you love iced coffee, why not spruce it up a little and try it with a shaken espresso? This recipe can be made with strong-brewed coffee instead of espresso if you don’t have an espresso machine. You will need a cocktail shaker or a mason jar with a lid.
Enjoy your homemade shaken iced espresso!
